Privacy & your rights

Chop processes your personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Here is exactly what that means for you.

What we collect
  • Your name and email, so the account works
  • Recipes you save and cook, so your library and progress follow you
  • Basic device and crash data, so we can fix what breaks
What we do not collect

Location, contacts, photos or payment details. Anything we cannot justify against a stated purpose.

Your rights under the NDPA

Access a copy of everything we hold on you. Correct anything inaccurate. Delete your account and data. Take your data elsewhere in a portable format. Withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it. Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

How long we keep it

Account data for as long as your account is open, then 30 days before permanent erasure. Crash logs for 90 days.

How meal suggestions work

Chop suggests recipes based on the time of day and the day of the week, using your device clock. Nothing is sent anywhere to make this work.

5am – 11am — light breakfasts: pap, akara, yam and egg.
11am – 4pm — filling midday food; Sundays lean towards rice.
4pm – 9pm — soups, swallow and grilled food.
9pm – 5am — light late-night food: pepper soup, pap.

Once you have cooked a few things, suggestions also start weighting towards what you actually make — if you've consented to personalisation.
